John Cena is WWE’s highest paid wrestler. A fan asked Dave Meltzer on Twitter if Brock Lesnar was the top paid star, and Meltzer replied “No, John Cena is.”
Over on the f4wonline board, Meltzer said Cena was earning close to $10 million per year. His extra boost in earnings will come from his wide ranging royalty checks. He’s consistently booked in main event slots, and is nearly always the top merchandise seller in WWE. His popularity is several times bigger than anyone else on the roster, with over seven million followers on his Twitter. That’s more than the actual WWE account, and reflects his mainstream popularity.
That mass appeal is why Cena remains one of the hottest draws in the business. Ticket sales and television ratings are stronger with his presence, hence why it is such a blow for WWE to be losing him for nine months with a shoulder injury.
With Cena earning close to ten million, it is another reason why retirement could be on his mind. He’s made all the money he’ll ever need. For ten years he has been a main event star, pulling in big bucks as the franchise of the company. When he turns forty next year, he could easily ride off into the sunset as a very rich man.
